Virginia Marine Police Charge Boat Operator with Manslaughter in Accident

NEWPORT NEWS, VA. – Patrick Allen White, 27, of Poquoson was arrested this afternoon (Monday) and charged with manslaughter in the death of a boating companion in the boat accident Sept. 12 on the Yorktown waterfront, the Virginia Marine Police said.

The Virginia Marine Resources Commission's Jamie L. Green, the Marine Police investigator said, White was also charged with boating under the influence and with reckless boating operation.

White was taken to the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail near Williamsburg. Bail was set at $50,000.

Casey Thomas Marks, 27, of Hampton, was riding in a boat operated by White when it departed a dock in Yorktown and struck a nearby finger pier, Officer Green said. Marks died at the scene. A third individual in the boat was not severely injured.

The York County Commonwealth's Attorney's office is handling the case.
