| | Virginia Secretary of Natural Resources Doug Domenech today gave an update on Governor Bob McDonnell’s natural resource and energy goals during a morning press briefing in Richmond. During the briefing, Domenech discussed land conservation, Chesapeake Bay restoration and progress towards making Virginia the “Energy Capital of the East Coast.” He also announced that Governor McDonnell is hosting the next Chesapeake Bay Executive Council meeting in Richmond on July 11th. Domenech was joined at today’s press briefing by Natural Resources Deputy Secretary, Maureen Matsen who also serves as the Governor’s Senior Energy Advisor, and Anthony Moore, Assistant Secretary for Chesapeake Bay Restoration. |
| | Governor Bob McDonnell signed eight pieces of new legislation today at a ceremony at the VCU School of Business to promote the clean and renewable energy industry in Virginia and to spur development of new pilot projects and technologies that will promote reliable and affordable energy for Virginia's families, businesses and industry. This legislation will further advance development of renewable energy sources through solar generation demonstration programs, expansion of distributed generation and by establishing additional incentives for individuals and companies to utilize clean and renewable energy. |

| | Governor Bob McDonnell visited a Richmond-area gas station this afternoon to discuss rising gas prices and the need for more domestic energy production, including production of oil and natural gas off of Virginia’s coast. The Governor specifically highlighted two bills before Congress that would restart offshore energy exploration and production: H.R. 1230 and H.R. 1372. Governor McDonnell was joined at the event by Delegate Jimmie Massie (R-Henrico), small business owners and representatives from the energy industry. |

| | Governor and Mrs. McDonnell joined the Chiefs and members of the Pamunkey and Mattaponi Tribes for the annual Tax Tribute Ceremony at the Executive Mansion today. The Ceremony dates back to the Treaty of Middle Plantation in 1677, and is an annual Thanksgiving event. Chief Carl Custalow of the Mattaponi Tribe and Chief Robert Gray of the Pamunkey Tribe presented Virginia’s First Family with gifts including 2 buck deer and a turkey. The deer and turkey will be served at the Mansion. |
